Art
Instructor: Jennifer McIntyre
Description: Every week we will visit an artist and do a project based on something that we learned about the artist. Projects will cover things like color theory, design, drawing, painting, etc. Each student will keep his/her work in a portfolio. Students will create a display of their own work each session. In the process of creating their displays students will learn about
galleries and how to correctly display their work.
Grades: 1st-6th

Drawing I
Instructor: Jennifer McIntyre
Description: Students will complete a notebook using various methods and techniques to use with drawing, such as perspective, shading, foreshortening, surface, size, contour lines, and density. A brief introduction to the history of drawing is also included. Supplies needed: 3-ring binder, drawing pencils 2H-6B, white eraser.
Grades: 9th-12th

Drawing II
Instructor: Jennifer McIntyre
Description: Students will complete a notebook expanding their study of drawing using various media like ink and colored pencils. Students will take a look at specific Masters and their style
and how they used drawing. Supplies needed: 3-ring binder, drawing pencils 2H-6B, white eraser.
Grades: 9th-12th

World History/ World Literature
Instructor: Julie Cagle
Description: This is a 2 semester survey class studying world history while also reading literature from/about the corresponding time periods. I use the Notgrass Company's Exploring World History curriculum. There is written work each week as well as reading that is discussed in class. The student will also be completing a year-long Nations Project with a partner. This is a college-prep class recommended for 9th grade and up.
Day & Time: Fridays, 9:00-11:00am

Fee: $75 /semester (2 semester commitment)

Algebra I or Algebra II
Instructor: David Vanderveen
Description: For Algebra 1 & 2, we are using Saxon 3rd editions. Algebra 2 has a pre-requisite of Algebra 1. The class with the most sign-ups will be taught.

Geometry

Description: This class will be taught using Harold Jacob’s Geometry: Seeing, Doing, and Understanding, 3rd edition. Pre-requisite: Algebra I.

Chemistry

Description: This course is designed for those who want to do Apologia Chemistry at home on their own but want help with the labs and help understanding the concepts. We will be using Apologia Chemistry I, 2nd edition.
Day & Time: 3:00-4:00, beginning Friday, 8/20

Physical Science
Instructor: Greg Metcalf
Description: We will be doing Physical Science using Apologia Exploring Creation with Physical Science 2nd Edition. In class lessons will focus on difficult concepts/questions from each chapter and reviewing those lesson. Each week we will do lab or other activities designed to reinforce home assignments during the week.
Day & Time: Tuesdays, 4:00-5:30 pm beginning mid-August

Pre-Calculus
Instructor: Brenda Ammons
Description: Precalculus for students in university programs of science, mathematics, engineering or computer science. This course prepares students for Calculus I. Review of algebraic, trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions. Topics include systems of equations and inequalities, maximization, trigonometric definitions, graphs, equations and identities, exponential and logarithmic functions and complex numbers.  Pre-requisites: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry
Textbook:  Blitzer.  Precalculus Essentials.  Third Edition.  Pearson Prentice Hall, Upper Saddle River, NJ, 2010
Personal Equipment:  A graphics calculator is required for this course TI-83, TI-83+, TI-84, or TI-84+.  A symbolic manipulator such as the TI-89 or TI-92 is not permitted.
Day & Time: 2:30-4:00 Monday and 1:30-3:00 Wednesday

Economics
Instructor: Pam Cooper
Description: The author of Economics in a Box will be teaching economics as a one-semester course in the fall of 2010. The completed class is worth a half credit, satisfying the high school graduation requirement for a half credit of economics for rising juniors and seniors.
